Connections Matter Here for you

What's happening to our world?

Does having a belief in a higher entity, an Other that is greater than us all, help us to keep things in perspective? After all when things go 'haywire' many of us turn to the 'Almighty'. Sometimes we just need help and the only help that really gets to the heart of our soul is of the spiritual kind. Yes of course we need those necessities of life - food, shelter, warmth. And I've always said that my luxury is hot running water. It is such a delight, such a pleasure.

Which takes me back to the beginning - what is happening to our world? Has over population got anything to do with it? Obviously those basic commodities, which we need to provide the essentials for existence, will become scarcer the greater the number of people for which to provide. And the greater the number of people, there will be more demand and more greed as the planet is further exploited. Our climate is compromised. So what is the solution? Surely, we cannot keep expanding the global population.

The world needs our compassion now more than ever, as a planet and as a habitat for all life.

In Australia all governments have now thrown their hands in the air because they just don't care anymore about the number of lives being lost to the pandemic. At one point they did care, evidenced by the need to mandate mitigation strategies including lockdowns, but now the government has given up. Yet for the people who continue to lose loved ones, in greater numbers now than before, it would be a much different story. We should be feeling great sympathy for all those people. I also feel for those whose businesses have suffered due to the pandemic (you are not alone), but we all have to make sacrifices. And to think the sacrifice you've made may just save a life, isn't that worth it?

I
n 2020 and 2021 we endured lockdowns to protect each other and save lives, now in 2022 lockdowns, especially in Victoria, seem to be a thing of the past and people go about their daily lives as if the pandemic is over. Many unable to adopt any sense of self-leadership and maintain basic mitigation strategies, that evidence proves needed to remain in place by mandate. It seems many people need to be told what to do, otherwise they just won't do it. I don't understand that attitude. But that's just me.

So more people are losing their lives now in Australia than in 2020 or 2021.

I read a comment (The Age, Letters) that expressed the belief that the reason why the government is not mandating mitigation strategies now is because of an upcoming election. There are many of us who would like to see the pandemic in Australia, and the world, brought under control and finally over. Australia ranking fifth, sixth or eighth in the world for deaths in the last seven days (according to the World Health Organisation) is not good given what Victorians have endured over the last two years. If this rate of deaths was applied to other areas of society there would be an outcry. It’s time to wake up Australia. The pandemic is not over.

So, let us pray for our world, for all it is experiencing (in whatever form prayer takes for you). But let us pray especially for compassion and understanding. Let us pray for a way through the
plethora of opinions and solutions that exist on any given topic, but to remember in our prayers that we may not agree and that doesn't entitle us to force our opinion on others, or to think that our opinion is all that matters. Let us pray that we will hear different opinions, and the reasons for them, with respect.

Our planet and all its inhabitants, need our support now more than ever. We need drastic change on so many levels. And maybe coming together in common prayer, common meditation, is one thing we can do. A silent vigil for our world, its habitats, and its people.
