Connections Matter Here for you

Communic8 Workshops

We all experience a range of emotions. From feeling joy and elation to sometimes feeling hurt and angry. There can be times when we just don't know how to feel, let alone what to say. And sometimes we don't know what to do. At times we can find it so hard, we either limit contact or withdraw altogether from some relationships. Difficulties can extend across our social network, making everything even more strained. Does any of this sound familiar?

Having focussed on enhancing relationships with relatives and people living with dementia for her PhD research Dr. Kruger found that there is a common thread to how we interact with each other in daily life. Having had her own share of difficult relationships, and with her counselling experience, Dr. Kruger offers a number of opportunities to help you improve your relationships.

What's on offer …

Effective Communication

Have you ever felt so hurt and upset that you just didn't know where to start to share what you're feeling? Have you ever felt others just won't understand? Have you ever not known what to say or how to raise that difficult topic?

Our perception of situations all differ and sometimes being able to communicate how we feel, and being able to be heard and respected can be extremely difficult. In this workshop we discuss different ways of sharing our feelings. Learn about how the language we use, from our choice of words, our tone, and how we express ourselves physically can all affect our ability to communicate effectively with others.

In this session we discuss:

  • How our way of communicating and our use of language can affect others
  • How our pace and manner may need to change when communicating with some people
  • The subtleties of communication and interacting that can make a difference.

Effective communication doesn't always come easily.

Critical Reflection

What is critical reflection and how do we incorporate this into our daily lives? Being self-aware is crucial to improved relationships, personal and professional, however knowing how to critically reflect is a learned skill.

In this session you will:

  • Learn what it means to critically reflect on your relationships
  • Learn how your contributions to an interaction can influence another, for better or worse
  • Learn the importance of talking in a safe environment.
